The recovery phase is one of the most important phases of your cosmetic surgery experience. While you recover after surgery, your body is healing and the stage is being set for your results to take shape. It’s important to prioritize your downtime and clear your schedule. The exact duration will depend on the procedures you elect.

Here are a few tips for successful healing:

  • Get up and move around, but skip the gym and strenuous activities. In the first few days especially, it’s important to walk around. Although you need to take it easy, staying in bed around the clock is too far on the other end of the spectrum. Walking around will help your body start the healing process. That being said, you will need to take time off from the gym, yoga studio, running, weight lifting, and other strenuous exercise. Most procedures require about 4-6 weeks off from the most intense exercise, but Dr. Miller will provide you with a custom timeline based on your procedures and your regular activities.
  • Eat well and stay hydrated. Food and drink is the fuel for your recovery. Focus on healthy foods – vegetables, lean protein, fruit – and delay alcohol and soda consumption for a while. Staying hydrated is also important.
  • Have realistic expectations for yourself. Many of our patients lead active, full lives. It can be difficult to turn the dial down on the speed of daily life while you recover, but it’s an essential part of the process. Keep your expectations realistic during this time: You’re not going to be able to work on demanding projects. If you have kids, you will need help with childcare. Errands, work obligations, strenuous exercise – all of these things will have to take a backseat for a few weeks.

These are just a few tips. We will provide you with clear and complete aftercare instructions, and make sure you have the support you need through all phases of surgery.
