What Is Chin Liposuction?

Posted: October 22, 2022

For many years, liposuction has been among the most popular treatment methods for removing stubborn body fat that diet and exercise seem to miss. Liposuction is very successful and often brings great results, with minimal risks or recovery after the procedure.

With the advancements in medical technology and procedure methods, liposuction is now safely performed in many other areas of the body and the abdomen. Nearly anywhere where there is stubborn fat causing a look you would like to change can be addressed by a liposuction technique of some sort.

One of the most difficult areas to get rid of stubborn body fat is the submental area, or the area below the chin that connects to the front of the neck. Sometimes called submental fullness, excess fat in this area can look like a double chin or loose or sagging skin.

Some injectable formulas can help address this issue, but chin liposuction can safely, quickly, and permanently remove the fat cells in this area. Although it is considered a slightly more invasive procedure than dermal injectables, the techniques help reduce the pain to almost nothing, coming with great results.

Before removing the fat cells, your doctor will inject a solution of tumescent fluid and lidocaine to prepare the fat for removal. The tumescent fluid causes the fat cells to swell in size and helps increase the efficiency of removal, while the lidocaine helps to numb the area and minimizes pain and discomfort during the procedure.

There may be some pain and discomfort for the first couple of days after the procedure, although most patients report this to be mild and are able to overcome the discomfort with over-the-counter anti-inflammatory and pain medication. You can return to light activities with a small amount of cardio work after 2-weeks and have no restrictions after 4-weeks.
