What are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are injectables used in and around your lips to help smooth wrinkles and increase lip volume. These fillers not only change the size of your lips, but also give them a smoother, silkier appearance. Depending on the type of filler, the results last around 6-18 months. Whether you want a more subtle, natural appearance or celebrity-style fullness, Dr. Miller provides flattering results that accentuate your beauty.

Types of Lip Fillers We Use

At Orange County Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Miller uses state-of-the-art, FDA-approved fillers for lip augmentation. The fillers below are ideal for lip augmentation, and can also be used for other purposes:

Juvederm is a dermal filler that helps clear wrinkles around different parts of the face, including the cheeks, nose, lips, and mouth. The solution is a gel made with hyaluronic acid (HA), which occurs naturally in the body and bonds with water molecules. This helps plump up and hydrate the skin and the lips, creating a smooth, natural appearance.

Restylane is similar to Juvederm but can be used around the eyes, in addition to the lips and skin. It uses hyaluronic acid and adds both volume and lift to your lips. Restylane can also be used to treat facial wrinkles and correct hollowness below the eyes.

Both Juvederm and Restylane have specific fillers that are used to enhance your lips, and they can easily be incorporated into a comprehensive treatment that includes dermal fillers for smoothing wrinkles and contouring your face.

Both of these injectables take just a few minutes to inject. Dr. Miller will help make you comfortable throughout your visit and provide beautiful results.

Candidates for Lip Fillers

You may be a great candidate for lip augmentation if you have:

  • Thin, small lips

  • An undefined vermilion border
  • Wrinkles around the mouth
  • Wrinkles above the upper lip (also known as “smoker’s lines”)

The Treatment Process

Unlike other types of lip augmentation, lip fillers are non-surgical, quick, and easy. Benefits include:

  • Long lasting plumpness (6-18 months)
  • Limited to no recovery
  • No anesthesia required
  • Fast results

At Orange County Cosmetic Surgery, our appointments only take between 15-60 minutes, depending on the treatment plan. Dr. Miller will numb your lips before the injection, so you don’t feel any pain. Afterwards, you can get back to your day. Some swelling and bruising is normal, and clears up in 2-7 days. For this reason, we suggest you plan your appointment a few days in advance of any events or meetings to ensure that your lips are fully healed. Use an ice pack or cold compress to reduce swelling, and avoid moderate exercise for at least 24 hours. It may also help to keep your head elevated and avoid laying on your stomach or side while sleeping.

Depending on the type of injection you receive, you can expect results to last anywhere between 6-18 months. For a seamless transition, you can also receive a maintenance injection every 3-4 months. This will help reduce the deflation of your lips.

How Long Do Lip Fillers Last For?

Lip Fillers can last anywhere from about 6 to 9 months, depending on which filler you go with. Juvederm Ultra Plus usually lasts about 6 months, while Restylane kysse lasts from 9 months to a full year.

Benefits of Lip Fillers

Thin lips, as well as wrinkles and lines around your mouth, can make you look older. Lip fillers not only enhance your natural appearance by erasing signs of aging, but also improve your facial balance. Having full, pouty lips helps define the contours of your face and restore a youthful appearance.
